Since Autumn 2024, the CLT Network has been lobbying our government for key funding and policy changes so CLTs can achieve more and contribute to ambitious national targets for housing, climate and cohesive communities.
Our government has recently published several policy updates and is currently making decisions about the future of funding programmes, like the Affordable Homes Programme. In this session we will summarise what these recent updates mean, what progress we have seen against our policy proposals, and what we can now do as a Network to secure more tangible support for CLTs.
In this session, our CEO, Tom Chance, will review and explain:
-
Our government’s housing strategy in brief
- The state of funding and how we can influence more funding for CLTs
-
Affordable Homes Programme and the Community Housing Fund
-
Second homes council tax premiums – North Yorkshire Council is allocating £1 million a year to affordable housing – can we replicate this elsewhere?
-
2024’s National Planning Policy Framework updates – wins, opportunities and challenges
-
The Devolution White Paper and the Community Right to Buy – what this means for CLTs and where we want to see more
-
Leasehold and commonhold reform – CLTs currently protected
And share the next steps that all members of the CLT Network can take in advocating for more funding and better policies for Community Ownership and Community-Led Development.
We will allow some time for questions so please come ready to ask questions, or share them in advance on [email protected] or in our online member space.
If you are looking to do some pre-reading, please find our recent think pieces about policy here. Please also see our current policy proposals and letter templates here.
Who is this session for? This session will be best suited for CLTs looking to deliver homes and/or community places although some sections may be relevant to CLTs delivering biodiversity stewardship or energy schemes. This session will focus primarily policy and funding updates specific to English CLTs, although some areas may be relevant to Welsh CLTs. Welsh CLTs can review our current advocacy asks here.
Please note that this event is open to CLT Network members only. If you would like to join as a member, please see our membership information here.
