Submission to the 2024 autumn budget

Home K Funding K Submission to the 2024 autumn budget
We have submitted a set of proposals to HM Treasury for the 2024 autumn budget, due to be delivered by the Chancellor on the 30th October.

The government has not released any money for community led housing in England since 2020/21. But as we set out, there is a very strong case for them doing this. Our research, and independent studies, show the benefits of the Community Housing Fund.

Effective

homes in the potential pipeline created by the Community Housing Fund, with over 4,222 homes in funded projects since 2018

Successful

%

of projects have not failed, with 27% either completed or under construction and a majority of the remainder with a secure site and a planning consent

Value for money

pounds of public benefit for every £1 spent by the government, making it ‘high value for money’ using the Treasury’s methodology
Our submission sets out this case, all the evidence of the public benefits (from more social housing to reduced loneliness, high street renewal to lower carbon approaches to construction).

We then make our asks:

  1. Renew the Community Housing Fund.
  2. Release the £20m of investment capital pledged for community led housing in the 2024 Spring Budget.
  3. Invest in our in-development Rural Social Housing Fund.
  4. Back and invest in the long-term strategy for community led housing we developed with CCH and UKCN.
  5. Implement a package of other enabling reforms to planning, devolution, the Community Right to Buy, public asset disposal rules, and the leasehold reforms.
